WHAT IS A SAP RATING
Standard Assessment Procedure is the official, government approved system for assessing the energy rating for a new home.
SAP assessments must be carried out by Energy Assessors who are both accredited and registered with a certification body. A SAP assessment is designed to compare the energy performance of properties. Each property will end up with a figure calculated between between 1 and 100. The higher the SAP rating, the lower the fuel costs and the lower the associated emissions of carbon dioxide. It establishes an energy cost based on the construction of the home, its heating system, internal lighting and any renewable technologies included. This does not include energy used for cooking or appliances.
WHY ARE SAP RATINGS IMPORTANT
To pass current Building Regulations, many types of residential projects will have to comply with Part L. Unless it can be shown to comply with the relevant part of Part L, Building Control will not sign off a development as complete and the property then cannot be let or marketed for sale. For your convenience there is a link above to download current Part L documents.
Although getting a building to comply with Part L is important, unlike many other SAP companies we have been involved with developing properties for in excess of 30 years, as a result we offer much more than just data processing, we can advice on choice of materials, heating systems, construction methods and much more. There is not a set formula for every site/client, we will work with you to achieve the right solution for any particular project. Equally if a simple report to show compliance is all you require, we can provide that too. But it is very rare we don't end up suggesting something to add to the mix!!
The first EPC generated for any new dwelling (new build or conversion) legally has to be created from an On Construction SAP calculation. This is different to existing properties which have their EPC created from RDSAP, which involves a site visit from an accredited SAP assessor.
